Ireland is running out of priests and nuns at an astonishing rate as the country has lost faith in faith. This is important. It suggests Ireland’s experience has much to say to the big debates of our time about problematic religion and the new atheism. But are the Irish even thinking about what they could contribute to these debates or are they just too embarrassed by their past?
